I'm Serving Up Victory Downtown on Friday
VI Marketing and Branding will celebrate its 10th Annual Chili Cook Off on Friday, Nov. 2, by taking to the streets. The downtown chili party and United Way fundraiser is open to the public from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 125 Park Ave. And I will be teaching Oklahoma how to make chili as it was intended: Texas style.
Tents, tables and chairs will line the sidewalks in front of the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce office, and The Wiseguys, who will perform as the IntelliGents, perform on the rooftop as the chili smackdown commences.
And when that happens, I will unveil my Red River Chili 2.o recipe for the first time. This new recipe contains no chili powder or blends and nods in recognition to the recipe of the late-great Frank X. Tolbert, who practically put chili on the map with his chili mastery and the ability to stir up a good fight.

I will be competing with VI employees and local restaurants for your adoration, so come on down and let me earn it one spoonful of spicy beefiness at a time. I’ve called upon the expertise of Oklahoma chef emeritus John Bennett as chief consultant, meaning he’ll bark at me if I don’t do what he says. But I will take that abuse for one perfect skip across the public’s palate aimed at winning the hearts and stomachs of Oklahoma en route to chilimpionship.
The public is invited to eat and cast votes for top contestants. For a $10 donation to the United Way, guests will receive a mug to sample 3 different types of chili and a drink. Contestants include VI employees, local restaurants Café 7, Coolgreens, Deep Fork Grill, Red Prime, Rococo’s, Sweets and Eats, Texadelphia, The Wedge, and the Food Dude, Dave Cathey.
