I'll be in Norman this Saturday to tailgate

After taking a reconaissance trip to Stillwater, I’m ready to take on Norman. I’ll be making arrangements to meet with Sooner tailgaters the rest of the week, so if you’re interested in competing for the Bedlam Tailgating Showdown title, give me a buzz. You can fill out a form on the Tailgating University page.

Chef Luke Fry of Iron Starr Urban Barbecue of Norman offers some tailgating tips in the video above, and while I’m visiting tailgaters on Saturday, we’ll have some gifts from Iron Starr to pass out.

Last weekend, Oklahoma State poked multiple holes in the Washington State defense, sending an orange sea of tailgaters home happy. Groups were in all shapes and sizes, from groups of six to eight under a canopy with a Hibachi to mobile house parties with guests that numbered in the hundreds. From small to tall, the whole community stopped to stand at attention as the band marched toward the stadium, while burning embers, rising temperatures and adrenaline created a frenzy of shouts, hoots and raised beer cans. The eye of the storm was a stadium named after Boone Pickens, but there was nothing slim about the pickins that surrounded it. Hospitality ran almost as high as the hopes of Cowboys fans, and I consider myself lucky to have drank it all in, along with a couple Buds from Eskimo Joe’s. Really looking forward to returning and getting better acquainted with the tailgaters in orange.

As for this Saturday, Norman is hosting one of the best games in the nation.  It should be a good one as the Sooners look to improve on last week’s spotty but victorious performance against Utah State and Florida State’s Seminoles arrive with a 59-6 win in their wake.

Sooner fans, you’ve got a lot to live up to if you’re going to match what I saw in Stillwater. Bring it on, and let me know where I can find you.
