Oklahoma City man accused of domestic abuse over tax return money

Police arrested a man on domestic violence complaints after he pointed a shotgun at his girlfriend's face because she gave her tax return money to her father instead of him.

The woman told police she has been dating Steven Loyd, 29, of Oklahoma City, for five years and went to have her taxes prepared on Feb. 18. She said she returned to their apartment in the 7700 block of Lyrewood Lane and was confronted by Loyd.

According to a police report, the woman said she told her boyfriend she gave her tax return money to her father. She said her boyfriend then threw her on the couch and grabbed a 12-gauge shotgun, pointing it at her face.

The woman's young child was in the room and witnessed the altercation, police said.

She said Loyd then told her to call her father and get the money or he would shoot her. Police said the woman told officers Loyd would not let the child go until she brought back half of the tax money.

She obliged and gave him the money before leaving with her child, according to the report.

Officers later located Loyd at the apartment and arrested him. He was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on a complaint of domestic abuse in the presence of a minor and assault and battery with a deadly weapon. He has since been released on $23,000.
