"How dare he!” cried Sooner Nation in August, after the former Heisman winner and current ESPN analyst predicted the Sooners would lose four games.

Ranked No. 3 in the preseason polls, Oklahoma was among a handful of favorites to compete for the national title. Oklahoma won 23 of its 28 games in two seasons, and with several players in the conversation for the best at their position in college football, Ware took plenty of criticism, thanks to his peculiar prediction.

"Oklahoma fans are passionate, and rightfully so,” Ware said this week. "When you say something like that, a lot of places will let it go and move on down the road. That’s not the case at the University of Oklahoma.”

With the season now more than half over, Ware’s prediction doesn’t look so outrageous. Though Oklahoma was a three-touchdown favorite in its season opener against Brigham Young, Ware said the Sooners would lose. They did.

He warned that a road trip to Miami would be far from a repeat of the Sooners’ 2007 blowout win in Norman. It was.

Ware was wrong about Tulsa’s offense troubling the Sooners (shutout in a 45-0 loss in Norman), but Oklahoma came a step closer to fulfilling the former Houston quarterback’s prediction after losing to Texas in Dallas to fall to 3-3 on the season.

"I’m not in the business to feel vindicated,” Ware said. "I don’t take any satisfaction in saying, ‘Hey, I told you so.’ It’s what I believed at the start of the season, and it’s how it’s seeming to unfold. I just keep calling games.”

Ware never quite explained, other than referencing Oklahoma’s suspect offensive line, what made him think the Sooners’ national championship hopes would be shattered so early in the season.

Now, he says his inspiration was Clemson’s 2008 team, which returned a host of skill players, including a pair of superstar running backs, C.J. Spiller and James Davis, but just one offensive lineman. The Tigers, who opened the season in the top 10, were blown out by Alabama in their season opener and finished 7-6, winning just four ACC games.

"When I looked at Oklahoma, I saw the same picture,” Ware said. "It was quite clear to me, even with Sam back, that there were going to be some struggles, especially early, before the line had a chance to gel together.”

Bradford sprained the AC joint in his throwing shoulder just before halftime of the Sooners’ season-opening loss. The reigning Heisman winner missed three games, returned for one, but was shelved for good after re-injuring the shoulder on Oklahoma’s second offensive drive against Texas.

"I didn’t take into account or factor for injuries, though certainly they’re a part of the game,” Ware said. "I just felt the teams I picked them to lose to would be better, at the time they played them, than the University of Oklahoma.”

The Sooners are still a loss away from fulfilling Ware’s prediction, but he sees no reason to revise his preseason prediction.

Rather, he says Oklahoma is still on track to making him look like a 21st-century Nostradamus.

"They’ve got one more loss coming, and it’s against their rival, Oklahoma State,” Ware said. "I still think they’ll finish the year 8-4.”

Ware. You aren't as smart as you think. You prediction was with a healthy Bradford and Gresham. Alas, with both healthy and playing; the Sooners would surely be 8 and 0. If texASS lost McCoy and Shipley, where would they be? If FLOORiDA lost Timmy and any other starter; where would they be? Wise up Ware. You got lucky this time. The football GODS weren't kind to OU this season. I, for one, am proud of the way the 2009 Sooners have played. Is a Heisman in the future for Landry Jones? Who knows, but I know one thing for sure; with the way Little Colty and Timmy-boy have played this year, they don't even deserve any consideration for the Heisman. Ware, I'll give you this; there is a quarterback at Houston that deserves a Heisman. His name is Keenan, not Ware!!!!!!!!

no whining here danny vill...just facts..no one said ou wasnt 3 loses just that he prdicted wong based on the other teams being better..he never mentioned injuries as is what is the truth of the loses..no team can substain ou's losses and be any better..fact is 5 points from undefeated even with a depleated offense and new line..he should have said ou will recieve big injuroies that would cripple any team..but ou will lose only by 1.6 a game to 3 ranked teams. he gott it wrong on why is all thats being said..u sound very jealous of ou..maybe u should go back to ur teams web site. besides its gonna be alabama or florida winning the nc..after the way the big 12 been playing and the injuries my prediction all along was alabama as ou weak..sad but true..even the #3 texas barley pulled out a win againg a very depleated and very young offense..should have wont by more tha 10 and took advantage of ou's injuries but noooo...i was proud of theose all returning next yr freshmen offense!

danny vall...hahahah ur passion to insult sooners on facts is well like being a texas fan no reality..fact is yes his prediction seems there but he was guessing..for if bradford and others heathy then his prediction isnt correct. but as he said he only saw the other teams and did not see the injuries which were in fact the reason okla loss to 3 ranked opponents by 5 points..not because the other trams were better...which 5 points from being undefeated and poss #1 would spoild his guess...but no one here is whinning except u...all the sports writers and college shows know with those super star players out caused ou losses..dont believe anyone saying were nort with 3 loses..read...but no big deal the guy was wrong on why ou would lose 4 games but he was semi right at 3. i am sure he made other team predictions that wont work either...but so far only 3. no whinig just facts and ur all by urself on urs..go back to that texas or whatever website...wont matter alabama or florida will be a nc..i hope alabama

No matter what kind of spin you put on it, Ware is real close to being correct. If "ands and butts
were candy and nuts" OU would be undefeated. OU fans need to start dealing with reality. OU
hasn't been the team they were propped up to be for the last 5-6 seasons. This season is a
good marker for what is to come. A team has to win close games, snatch victories from the
jaws of defeat, win in prime-time, beat teams when you are an underdog to them. Win
on the road against top 10 teams impressively. Whats impressive about a 62-41 score at
Stillwater, not a friggin thing. They held Texas to 45 pts. in the Cotton Bowl, impressive,
right! The DO said they had moved up to #20, but the crawl on ESPN for this week-end
had them #24. #24 is about right. Looking at the teams from #20 up to #10, I don't see
OU winning at a neutral or visiting team situation. No swagger, no intimidation, no smash
mouth style for 4 quarters. Big "half-game Bob" has left his mark. They say a team takes
on the demeanor of their coach and staff. The spin starts at the DO and ends here.

That's an ignorant statement, Jolly. Oklahoma loses three games by a combined total of 5 points, and you're delegating them to below Top 20 status all of a sudden. Wishful thinking on your part, maybe. Oklahoma remains one of the top 10 programs in the country. An occasional 3 or 4 loss season won't change that.

I am not switching sides...I am really pissed off how horrible osu played on saturday. Nobody can win in Norman. TCU and OSU are the only teams to win there since 2000. Earlier in the season I predicted an OSU win but seeing how they played at home...they have ALOT of changes they need to make to their offense. Their (OSU's) defense is improving but what happened to the offense of 2008?? It's up in the air for the rest of the big 12.

What would have been the outcome if he didn't go down? The o-line suffered a huge loss with some of them entering in the nfl draft. Yeah, injuries are excuses. Stoops/Wilson needs to play more of their lineup and keep rotating players through out the season. Wouldn't this give younger players more experience and srs/jrs more rest for big games? Just a thought.

Yeah, injuries happen, but there is no way to know who it would happen to, and to say that Oklahoma would lose 4 games would only happen without Sam Bradford, if he had not gotten hurt, then there is no way they would have lost those 3 games, they lost by a total of 5 points all 3 games, he could have easily won by not making the mistakes Landry made. Landry is a good QB, but think of this, on the 3rd and goal from the one yard line if Bradford was in the game on that possession then he would not have let the clock expire on him getting a delay of game and would have had a very good chance of scoring 7 instead of 3, thus game won... Also in the Texas game Landry threw 2 interceptions to help Texas win, Bradford would not have thrown those 2, maybe a different one if any, but probably not considering he does not through them very often, but anyhow, one of those INT's lead to a Texas Score, so again, probably OU wins....

Same story with Miami.

So Ware, you would be wrong if Bradford did not go down.

Ware's predictions and statements are spot on -- Swooners are "passionate" (which means unrealistic idiots) when it comes to their team. Ware's predictions of 4 losses are right on track and you whining, crybaby Swooners can't handle it.
Sure, it's another very disappointing year. Lose Bradford, lose any hope of national recognition (which Swooner fans directly tie into their self-esteem), lose to Texas AGAIN, and the Swooners are saying "Ware was lucky because of the injuries"?!

Ware just got extremely lucky that OU lost their starting LB Balogen, QB Bradford and TE Gresham (the latter 2 players being the best in the country at their position). With those guys OU would easily be undefeated and ranked #2 in the country no matter how bad their offensive line is. Guys like Ware make predictions all the time and some of them are bound to come true but this one was pure luck. By the way there's absolutely no way OU loses to OSU. The only game they probably will struggle with is at Tech. OU has lost 2 home games since Stoops became coach...not gonna happen.

What a joke, he probably made about 30 predictions on different shows at different times, one of them is bound to come true. Did he know the Heisman trophy winner was going to play less than a half of football, did he know we would lose the best TE in the country, that we would be without our best wideout for part of the season, that trent williams would forget how to play football? Worst Heisman tropy winner ever!!!!

What a horrible article. Andre Ware predicted OU to lose 4 games WITH Sam Bradford. He never said anything about losing him for the season. If anything, an article should be written about how wrong he was. 3 losses by a total of 5 points with the nation's best QB on the sideline? The prediction wasn't outrageous? He's supposed to feel vindicated? He doesn't take any satisfaction in saying, "Hey, I told you so."? HE COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG!! Looking back, it was a horrible prediction.

What Ware did know was the offensive line which is clearly identified in the article. If our o-line does not improve and progress which they have then he does look like Nostradamus. Its simple, even next year if the o-line doesnt perform expect more of the same.

Ware got lucky. Injuries are part of the game, but to lose two of the top players in the country at their positions will affect any team. There is no way Ware could have thought OU would lose both of those guys. OU's offense is in complete rebuilding mode this year. We didn't expect that to happen until next year. The bright spot is that next year the offense should be much better than they would have been if this hadn't happened.

He may be right but he's right not for the right reasons. He is blaming the O-line for the losses, which yes they have been bad in several games... but the reason they lost 3 games is due to injuries. The games they lost were not by very much so you can't tell me by having Sam and Gresham wouldn't have been a facter. They played right with Texas, at best they would be a 1 loss team right now if everyone stayed healthy.

Anyone who has watched OU's games can see that the O-line play has been bad. In fact, it's the reason SB got hurt in the BYU game and again in the Texas game. The O-line still wasn't very good in the Texas game, but has a chance to improve before Bedlam. And remember, even in the first half at BYU, OU had been outplayed, and the offense was just not clicking.

I would sell my season tickets but my wife won't let me. I have a 52" inch TV at home and I would rather watch Stoops and Wilson coach a half-ass game from home drinking beer and not spend $300 every other week-end getting into Norman and watching the game when I know that when the are winning they won't play the whole game(in re: the last OU possession of the KSU game) because Stoops doesn't want to hurt someones feelings. And watching Stoops & Wilson's hurry-up offense is giving me the hick-ups.

Well turns out they all kept their season tickets...but still just blows my mind that these people would want to jump ship twice in one season. I understand being upset after a loss...believe me....I am an OSU fan and was upset crying after the Texas game as you said Raven. That one hurt. But I was never ready to sell my season tickets. I just think thats crazy. Im not trying to be on here bashing people or anything like that. I just am saying I think its crazy. And yes these people I am talking about are realtives and people I personally know so I am not speaking for all OU fans. I myself pull for OU sometimes. Especially when its Texas. I have always hated Texas.

Carson says it best of anyone. It's like a guy drawing four cards to a royal flush and then claiming to be a great poker player. He made a wild-ass guess and got it right (or close). Angela - who are these people and how much do they want for their season tix? I went out and bought a new OU hoodie after the BYU game. I bought a new OU comforter set after the Miami game. I cried after the UT game, but that's beside the point. My point is, who are these fair-weather fans, and how much are their season tickets? :)

You know what i think is crazy. Everyone I know that claims to be a die hard sooner fan wanted to sell their season tickets after the BYU game. They were just giving up after one game. Then they got back on board and then when Sam hurt his shoulder they were back to selling their tickets. You cant expect a football game to be a one man show!

boomer, who knows. After seeing osu's preformace at home this weekend AND knowing ou's home record. Not to mention ou's poor preformances this year...this year its anyone's season in the big 12. We all know where ut is goin...NC game. Nebraska held up against VA but lost to Iowa state. TTU held up against ut but lost to A&M. A&M is loss for words ...they just suck.

He appears to like the attention more than recognizing the obvious and admitting that OU would only have lost MAYBE one game with a healthy Bradford. If he picked Bradford to get hurt and for OU to go 8-4 then he could puff his hasbeen chest out, instead of drinking in the limelight from 1 part acumen and 9 parts luck.

john from miami there were ALOT of passes that would have been caught if Dez was rx'n for the cowboys. OSU's defense was outstanding against ut. The offense is who threw the game away for osu. Missed catches, int's, poor running....etc...I am alot of things to be pissed off about the offense's preformance on saturday. This offense is not the same as last year.

John of Harrah: your argument makes no sense. Both Dez Bryant and K. Hunter played in the Houston loss for OSU and it was not the offense that struggled, but the poor OSU defense that did. You have a better argument for Texas, but again, the defense was horrible for OSU. Also, since you are indicating that a Heisman winning and still projected 1st rd. draft choice QB vs. a redshirt QB, and "America's best" and projected 1st rd. draft choice TE vs. a walk-on TE is not worth 1 to 3 points per game; than I doubt that Bryant and Hunter (though both are very good players) would be worth an additional 27 points against Texas.

I think it is funny how people were outraged by Ware's prediction.... and now it is close to being correct. They killed him on the Sport's Animal... funny I have not heard much about it now that he is almost correct. Injuries or not give it up to him. Remember unless they are not bowl eligible.... the Sooners will probably lose another bowl game.... just have to keep up that Sooner tradition.

Yeah, no validity to his prediction since he made it with OU having a healthy Sam and Jermaine, and most would agree OU would be undefeated now even with the O-line troubles. Sam would have had enough to overcome the five total points in the three loses. Not being a homer here but Sam and Jermaine are that good.

Raven, OSU/Texas game was not much of a game. Texas dominated both sides of the line from the opening kick. Billy: The reason people are down on Ware is that even he admits that he did not factor in injuries. Bradford and Gresham are worth at least one point (OU lost to both BYU and Miami by 1 point each and both games OU was without Gresham and Bradford missed the entire Miami game and more than half of the BYU game). Also, with Bradford in the game against Texas, he guided OU easily downfield on the opening series. OU scored 7 points in its first series with Bradford and only 6 points without him the rest of the game. HadGresham and Bradford remained healthy, OU would be 7-1 or 8-0. So, we are saying, Ware was lucky in his prediction. Next year was suppose to be the rebuilding year, but because of the injuries, it came a year earlier. Nebraska and Texas Tech will be more difficult game than OSU.

His prediction while accurate, is based only on bad luck for OU. If Gresham had not been injured, it is likely that OU would have just one loss. With both Gresham and Bradford still playing, they may be undefeated, given that the three losses are by a total of 5 points. Ware made an accurate prediction, but it is only due to injury that no one could foresee. However, injuries are still part of the game.

I’ll sum it up for you then if Ware won’t. Keep in mind this was his PRE-season prediction. So you look at who was on OU’s schedule and where the possible losses would come from. Of course at this time he had the knowledge of Gresham being out for the season, so factor that in as well. But, Texas and OSU started the year in the top 10. Kansas, BYU and Nebraska were ranked in the top 25. So you have 5 ranked teams right off the bat that appear to be tough games at best. Anyone who didn’t see Miami coming on this year had to be a numb skull with the talent they have. So you have potentially 6 teams or half of the schedule that could pose a problem for OU. Now you throw in the fact that OU had essentially a new offensive line. Those of you who think just because they had mop up duty experience last year so they should be ready to go, have no clue about college football and how it works. An offensive line more than any other part of the game has to work as a team and needs valuable time to gel. Practice is great, but nothing compares to game speed. So Ware’s comparison to Clemson’s 2008 team is valid where the O-Line is concerned. To think OU would go undefeated with a rebuilt offensive line is well, just clueless. Lastly, to say OU would be 8 – 0 if Bradford wasn’t hurt is just as clueless. Now you’re talking with your heart and not your head. Bradford is a great quarterback and may have pulled out a play here and there to make the difference, but we just don’t know that now do we? When it comes to predicting season outcomes, you have to go with your head, not your heart. So quit being offended long enough to really stop and think about what OU was facing and having to rebuild this year. Add to that the scratch your head play calling at times from the offensive coordinator and it appears Ware was not totally out in left field with his prediction.

he is not an idiot,,,,remember he predicted (lucky or not) that BYU would beat OU...so in my opinion he can say whatever he wants....a loss is a loss....yes i would have loved to seen gresham and bradford play but they got hurt and OU lost,,,,so the reasons why (bad calls, injuries ect.....) doesnt matter he was right,,,he dont have to predict injuries too.....sound like sooner fans are mad he was right,,,,sorry guys,,,,NO ONE WINS EVERY YEAR....for some reason or another

I totally agree with most of you...If Bradford and Gresham don't go down we are probably undefeated at this point....so Ware is not a superstar for predicting 8-4, heck take Florida, Texas, etc. and take away their top two offensive performers and their record is no different, if not worse than our's...it was injuries that put us here.

The legitmacy of his prediction will be determined on Nov. 28th by the fact he's picking O State to win in Norman.He didn't say the Sooners would lose in Lincoln or Lubbock, but rather in Norman against O State. If OSU wins in Norman and that is in fact OU's fourth loss---then I'll give him credit for the pick. Lincoln and Lubbock concern me more than O State in Norman.Just out of curiosity did he pick USC not to win the Pac 10 or for Georgia to be on the edge of a five loss season? Even with Sam and Jermaine---I thought we would lose two football games. Texas, and either at Miami or at Lubbock. It's a big deal rebuilding an O line and not to be dismissed-- and with Brody and Trent leaving we'll be in the same boat next season with another very tough non conference schedule on the horizon.

Andre Ware's career revolves around football, namely college football. It's all he does, which is fine. So the fact the predicted OU to go 8-4 may have seemed absurd to most (myself included), it's not like he put some numbers in a hat and drew them out. It's a very educated guess. I don't think he did anything to be disrespectful to OU by his prediction. I am OU alum and can tell you that I thought we would go 11-1 prior to the season starting. But I'm not in the business of college football, good job Andre.

If OSU which plays in Norman plays like they did against texas not happening Ware. But even if he doesnt get it right, with the early o-line struggles, which still are not over yet he was pretty close. Offensive line play will forewver be a football rule, if you have a good one you will go far, great one your likely playing in the BCS.

Footballs are built funny so they bounce funny. That's the reason that sometimes games are won or lost because of the bounce. Since they've been "beaten" by one, by one and by three I say that his predicion success was nothing more than total luck. Yes, the possiblity is there that OU could lose another game because that ball does bounce funny. But that won't make him a big prognosticator, it will only make him luckier than all get out. I know it gets old to hear it, but a healthy OU would be unbeaten at this time.

A healthy Sooner team this year would have been different. How would the top 2 teams survived losing their QBs ( ours being the best ), and an all american tight end. Where would Florida and Texass be if they lost their QB's for the year? We lost 3 games by a total of 5 points. Is someone going to try to convince me that if we had our two studs playing that they alone wouldn't be worth an additional 5 points ? It's been a tough injury year so far.

I mean the dude should feel pretty good about OU losing close the 4 games he predicted, but to think they will lose bedlam is pretty stupid. I would say OU has a bigger chance of losing against Tech or even Nebraska then OSU.
